For womxn students in South Africa

Know before you go.

Safety warnings about clubs and e-hailing rides disappear in group chats. SafeClub turns them into a lasting, community-owned record โ€” so you can decide before you walk in or get in.

  • Verified students only
  • Privacy by default
  • Built in Johannesburg

The warnings are already out there. They just don't last.

A voice note in a residence group. A post that gets buried by morning. A thread you only see if the right person reposts it. A first-year new to Johannesburg has no way to find any of it at 01:00, holding a drink, on a phone at 14%.

Panic buttons help after something has gone wrong. SafeClub is built for the moment before โ€” which club, which car, which way home.

How it works

Three steps. One hand. No guesswork.

  1. 1

    Join with your student number

Access is for verified students, confirmed with a one-time code. No strangers, no fake accounts reviewing your club.

  2. 2

    Check before you go

Look up the club or the number plate. See what sisters rated it on lighting, staff response, exits and overall safety.

  3. 3

Go out with your people watching

Turn on Night Mode. Your chosen sisters get your check-ins, and you can leave fast when a night turns.

Everything in one app

A safety ecosystem, not a panic button

Safety Hub

Rate clubs on four fixed criteria and flag rides by registration. Structured signals you can compare โ€” never a driver's name.

Safe Map

Recent safety pins around campus โ€” safe, caution or unsafe. Every pin is anonymous and attached to a public place, never to your phone's location.

Night Mode

One tap for "I'm safe", a bathroom timer, "lost my friends" and "need an exit". Dark, large and quiet, so it never lights up the room.

Fake Call & Discreet SOS

A convincing incoming call when you need a reason to step away, and a discreet alert to your own emergency contacts.

Sisterhood

A feed for tips, wins and mutual aid. Echo what matters, comment, save posts for later โ€” as yourself or as Anonymous Sister.

Anon Tips

Report harassment, spiking or an unsafe venue privately. Tips are always anonymous and go to moderators, not to a public wall.

Privacy by default. Safety by design.

You should never have to choose between being safe and being private.

For every feature we ask one question: does she need to be publicly identifiable for this to work? If not, SafeClub keeps her identity off the screen โ€” automatically.

  • Anonymous Mode, everywhere

One switch hides your name, username and photo on every post, comment and review โ€” including the ones you made before you turned it on.

  • Sensitive reports are always protected

Anon Tips, Safe Map pins and reports of harm are anonymous whatever your settings. You can't accidentally put your name on one.

  • No trail back to your door

Pins show a public place and the hour, not the minute. Night Mode shares only what you switch on, and only with the people you pick.

  • A cover if you need one

Incognito mode makes SafeClub look like a working calculator on your phone until you hold the display to come back in.

Nightlife Safety Influencers

Trusted voices, chosen by the community โ€” and accountable to it.

Sisters nominate the people whose safety advice they rely on. SafeClub reviews eligibility, and nobody becomes an NSI without saying yes.

Once they are, you can say whether each post meets the standard. A pattern of concern leads to a fair review by SafeClub โ€” never an automatic removal by vote.

Straight talk

What SafeClub is โ€” and what it isn't

SafeClub is

  • A preventative safety tool
  • A community-powered safety platform
  • A source of community safety signals
  • A way to plan more safely with trusted people

SafeClub is not

  • An emergency response service
  • A replacement for the police or medical services
  • A guarantee that a venue or ride is safe
  • Proof that anyone committed a crime

In immediate danger? Call 10111 (South African Police Service) or your local emergency service. Technology can fail and people may not respond in time โ€” don't depend on any app alone.

Questions

Frequently asked

Who can join SafeClub?

Registered students at our partner campus, verified with a student number and a one-time code. The full safety and community features are for users aged 18 and older.

Can other people see that I reported something?

No. Anonymous tips, Safe Map pins and sensitive reports are always anonymous to other users. SafeClub keeps enough to moderate abuse of the system, and nothing more.

Why don't reviews show a driver's name?

A name tied to an allegation is personal information about someone who can't respond. SafeClub shows the registration and structured flags โ€” useful to you, fair to everyone, and never presented as a finding of guilt.

Does Night Mode call the police?

No. Night Mode and Discreet SOS alert the trusted people you chose. They do not dispatch emergency services. If you are in danger, call 10111.

Who sees my location?

Only the accountable sisters and contacts you pick for a night, only what you switch on, and only while Night Mode is running. Nothing from Night Mode is posted publicly.

Is SafeClub free?

Yes, for students. Some posts in the feed may be sponsored, and they are always labelled.

Help shape SafeClub

What would make your nights out safer?

SafeClub is built with the students who use it. Tell us the feature you wish existed โ€” the one you'd have wanted at 01:00 last weekend.

  • Every suggestion is read by the team
  • The most requested ideas shape what we build next
What's it about?

Describe the idea, not a person โ€” please don't include anyone's name. 0 / 1000

We don't ask for your name or email, so suggestions are anonymous. Only the SafeClub team reads them; they reach our inbox through FormSubmit, an email-forwarding service. Privacy policy
